What is travel protection?
Travel protection is the combination of travel insurance benefits and emergency hotline services. Travel protection is designed to give travelers peace of mind by protecting their investment, health and belongings.Why do I need travel protection?
It provides you with:
- protection for your trip cost if you have to cancel
- 24-hour access to emergency medical referrals and assistance
- reimbursement for unexpected travel expenses you might incur
- protection for medical emergencies
- medical assistance abroad; your care will be monitored by U.S. standards
What does travel insurance cover?

What will the 24-hour hotline center service do for me?
Access America offers access to a 24-hour hotline center staffed with multi-lingual problem solvers able to help travelers with emergency medical, legal or travel help. Help getting a passport replaced, a bag reported missing, emergency cash or getting into a hospital is provided around the clock and around the world.Doesnt my credit card or regular medical insurance policy provide coverage for me while Im traveling?
You should always check your health insurance before you take a trip, because:
- most health plans dont provide payment directly to foreign hospitals
- your coverage may contain a deductible that you are responsible for satisfying
- most health plans do not cover the cost of emergency medical transportation
Can I cancel my trip for any reason and get all my money back?
No. Trip Cancellation coverage will refund pre-paid non-refundable payments if you have to cancel for a covered reason. Covered reasons include sudden medical emergencies, bankruptcy of a cruise line or tour operator, severe weather, terrorist incidents and being called for jury duty. There are other reasons as well but business obligations, change of mind, Pre-Existing Conditions are not covered.Can you explain the Pre-Existing Conditions Exclusion and the waiver to me?
A Pre-Existing Condition is any injury or illness that is in existence 60 days prior to and including the effective date of your insurance plan. These conditions are not covered unless you purchase the travel protection within 14 days of your initial trip deposit and you are 80 years old or younger.Do I have to buy travel protection at any specific time?
You can buy it at any time prior to leaving on your trip. If you want to be covered for Pre-Existing Conditions make sure you buy it within 14 days of paying your initial trip deposit and you are 80 years old or younger.Where can I buy travel protection?

Baggage coverage - provides coverage for loss, damage or theft of covered baggage and personal effects provided you have taken all reasonable measures to protect, save and/or recover your property at all times.
Individual: $500 Family: $1,000Baggage delay coverage - provides coverage for reasonable, additional purchases of essential items if your personal baggage is delayed or misdirected by a common carrier for at least 24 hours.
Individual: $100 Family: $200Collision/loss damage for rental cars - (optional at additional cost) will pay up to the amount of coverage provided for: (i) physical damage to a rental car which occurs while you are driving or while the rental car is left unattended during the rental period (under this benefit, "you" refers to the insured and licensed drivers who are designated as drivers on the rental car agreement); (ii) reasonable and customary rental charges which may be imposed by the rental company while the car is being repaired; and (iii) any loss of or damage to the rental car resulting from causes other than collision (for example: fire, storm, vandalism, theft). Coverage is not available in states or countries where prohibited by law.
Individual: $25,000 Family: $25,000Emergency Medical/ Dental Expense - provides benefits for covered emergency medical and dental expenses due to a loss incurred during the coverage period. An exam by a licensed provider must take place during your trip. Benefits are provided on an excess basis. For dental expenses, only those incurred during your trip are covered.
Individual: $10,000 Family: $20,000Emergency Medical Transportation - All medical transportation services must be authorized in advance by the Access America Hotline Center. Access America will arrange and pay for emergency medical transportation services required by you as a result of an injury or illness which occurs during the coverage period and requires medical evacuation and/or repatriation. A medical evacuation is defined as your being transported to the nearest appropriate medical facility as a result of our consulting physician and the local attending physician's determination that adequate treatment is not available locally. A medical repatriation takes place once you have received medical care and the local attending physician and our consulting physician determine you are able to return home. All medical transportation services are provided only if they are determined to be medically necessary by our hotline center medical staff in consultation with the local attending physician. Medical Repatriation Benefits are limited to $5,000 per person.
Individual: $10,000 Family: $10,000Missed connection coverage - provides benefits for covered expenses if, due to bad weather, you miss your cruise departure because your airline flight was canceled or delayed for at least 3 hours. Covers additional transportation costs to join the cruise, accommodations and hotel expenses up to $200 per day per policy and non-refundable trip payments.
Individual: $1,000 Family: $2,000Travel accident coverage provides benefits for death or physical loss of limb or eyesight due to a covered accident. The loss must occur within 365 days of the covered accident.
Individual: $25,000 Family: $50,000Travel delay coverage provides benefits on a one time basis for reasonable, additional accommodations and traveling expenses you incur due to a covered travel delay of 12 or more hours. Prepaid expenses are not covered. Benefits are limited to $100 per day per individual or family.
Individual: $500 Family: $500Trip cancellation coverage - provides benefits if your trip is canceled for a covered reason up to the time of departure.
Trip interruption coverage - provides benefits if your trip is interrupted for a covered reason after you have departed.
Covered cancellation/interruption reasons may under specific circumstances include:
- Accidents, injuries or death
- Active military duty
- Bad weather which causes complete cessation of services
- Felonious assault victim
- Financial default of an airline, cruise line, or tour supplier
- Fire or flood of your home
- Hijacking
- Job loss or lay off
- Jury duty
- Natural disaster
- Quarantine

The family program covers the traveler, spouse, and all accompanying dependents under 18 years of age. Grandparents traveling with just their grandchildren (under 18 years of age) are also considered a family.
Access America will send a certificate of insurance within 7 days of when coverage is ordered by the travel agent.
